My Review:
Burning Alive is the first installment in Shannon Butcher’s Sentinel Wars Series. Helen Day has seen visions of her death by fire for as long as she can remember, yet she's stunned to see the mystery man from her vision is real and in the same café she is in. Now Helen must figure out what to do before the mystery man notices her.
The mystery man's name is Drake Asher, a Theronai who has been fighting a battle with a demon race called Synestryn for over thousand years. The Theronai are the Earth's unknown guardians in this war with Synestryn to keep them away from the gateway to an ancestral world called Athanasia.
Drake, along with his friends Thomas and Zach, are searching for their fallen friend’s sword. Leaving Kevin's sword in the hands of Synestryn is a very dangerous idea because it would destroy all of Kevin's work as a Theronai by releasing all of the dead Synestern's souls; something like this cannot happen.
The Theronai warriors are on the verge of extinction as there are no more females and the males (who haven’t died as a result of the war) can’t find mates. Just when things seem bleakest, Drake meets Helen. From the first instant that Drake touches Helen, he's no longer in pain after years of enduring it for so long. Drake also knows that he can't stop touching Helen and wants to know the reason why that is. Out of time to ask questions of Helen, Drake demands that Helen come with him, but the Synestryn have other ideas.
Non-stop action ensues and there is a lot happening! First, Drake is injured while trying to protect Helen from harm. Then Logan, a Sanguinar, asks for Helen's blood whenever he wishes which she readily agrees even though Drake tells her not to (Logan is secretly glad about Helen's agreement for reasons not yet known). Next, Thomas drives Helen and Drake to the Gerai safe house. And then we see that Drake gets Helen to wear his luceria.
There are just so many questions you’ll be asking yourself such as why is Thomas so angry? Will Kevin's sword be found? What is so important about wearing luceria? Can Drake share the truth with Helen? Your answers await you in Burning Alive.
