4 Kiss Review: Night Broken (Mercy Thompson #8) by Patricia Briggs

18754527

#1 New York Times bestselling author Patricia Briggs’s Mercy Thompson series has been hailed as “one of the best” (Fiction Vixen). Now, Mercy must deal with an unwanted guest—one that brings a threat unlike anything she’s ever known.
An unexpected phone call heralds a new challenge for Mercy. Her mate Adam’s ex-wife is in trouble, on the run from her new boyfriend. Adam isn’t the kind of man to turn away a person in need—and Mercy knows it. But with Christy holed up in Adam’s house, Mercy can’t shake the feeling that something about the situation isn’t right.
Soon, her suspicions are confirmed when she learns that Christy has the farthest thing from good intentions. She wants Adam back and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen, including turning Adam’s pack against Mercy.

Mercy isn’t about to step down without a fight, but there’s a more dangerous threat circling. Christy’s ex is more than a bad man—in fact, he may not be human at all. As the bodies start piling up, Mercy must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart.

My Review:

Mercy Thompson Hauptman is a coyote walker and a VW mechanic who’s happily married to Adam, the Alpha of the Columbia Basin Pack.

Adam receives a frantic phone call from his ex-wife, Christy, saying she’s in danger and in need of a safe place to stay. This leaves Mercy with only one option: accept Christy's presence in her home.

Christy was well liked by certain members of pack, whereas Mercy is treated indifferently. Christy's presence could drive a wedge between Mercy and Adam, if Mercy allows it to happen – which she won't.

But things get bad quick as Christy drives Mercy out of the kitchen so she can't make a plethora of baked goodies. The danger that Christy brings to the pack is not only lethal, but powerful in supernatural force as well.

Beauclaire comes to Mercy looking for Lugh's walking stick which Mercy doesn't have because she gave it to Coyote.

Honey isn't doing well since Peter's death, and is sort of flattered by the attention Gary Laughingdog, another coyote walker and half brother to Mercy is giving her.

How much damage will Christy do to the pack? Will Mercy defend what's hers? Will Christy learn not to cross Mercy? Can the danger be stopped? Your answers await you in Night Broken.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
I totally wanted to smack Adam and certain members of the pack over their behavior towards Mercy. The way they seemed to fawn over Christy was sickening to behold.
I thought Mercy handled Christy better because she could get people to do what she wants, while knowing they were being manipulated by her. Unlike Christy who was subtle in her manipulations of others, all to her advantage.
I certainly hope that Christy crawls back into her hole and leaves Adam and Jesse alone like she always had. I applaud Ben, Warren, and Honey for not falling into Christy's trap.
Loved this book! I’m definitely looking forward to my next adventure in the series.
