4.5 Kiss Review: Last Sacrifice (Vampire Academy #6) by Richelle Mead

6527740

They come first.
My vision was growing dimmer, the blackness and ghosts closing in. I swore it was like I could hear Robert whispering in my ear: The world of the dead won't give you up a second time. Just before the light completely vanished, I saw Dimitri's face join Lissa's. I wanted to smile. I decided then that if the two people I loved most were safe, I could leave this world.
The dead could finally have me.

Rose Hathaway has always played by her own rules. She broke the law when she ran away from St. Vladimir's Academy with her best friend and last surviving Dragomir princess, Lissa. She broke the law when she fell in love with her gorgeous, off-limits instructor, Dimitri. And she dared to defy Queen Tatiana, leader of the Moroi world, risking her life and reputation to protect generations of dhampir guardians to come.
Now the law has finally caught up with Rose - for a crime she didn't even commit. She's in prison for the highest offense imaginable: the assassination of a monarch. She'll need help from both Dimitri and Adrian to find the one living person who can stall her execution and force the Moroi elite to acknowledge a shocking new candidate for the royal throne: Vasilisa Dragomir.
But the clock on Rose's life is running out. Rose knows in her heart the world of the dead wants her back...and this time she is truly out of second chances. The big question is, when your whole life is about saving others, who will save you?
Join Rose, Dimitri, Adrian, and Lissa in Last Sacrifice, the epic, unforgettable finale to Richelle Mead's international #1 bestselling Vampire Academy series.

My Review:

Last Sacrifice is the final installment of the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead (RM). Rose Hathaway has been accused of killing the Queen, Tatiana.

The royals are clamoring for her immediate termination, so she’s going to need every bit of help to escape her imprisonment and figure out who framed her.

In the last book, Rose and Lissa freed their enemy, Victor from prison as he told him only he had the answer on how to cure Dimitri – though they’ve managed to keep that crime under wraps.

Victor came through and Dimitri is no longer a strigoi! *flails* But before we can rejoice, Victor escapes them, and as if they don’t have enough going on, now they have to worry about recapturing him again.

Meanwhile, Sydney (the human Alchemist) is blackmailed hired by Rose’s dad, Abe, to hide Rose away until they figure out who is behind the Queen’s death. Dimitri goes along to help.

Rose, who by this time has chosen to be with Adrian, can’t stand being so close to her former lover, Dimitri. Try as she might, she can’t stop thinking about her former teacher.

But back at court, Lissa is nominated as a candidate to become Queen, though this is just a formality. She can never truly be a queen unless there is another present family member in her bloodline. Could the rumors be true of a missing child out of wedlock her father conceived?

Rose takes it upon herself to find out if the rumors are true or not, hoping she can place Lissa on the throne, even though she’s supposed to be laying low and hiding out. Can Rose unravel all the mysteries in time or will she be captured? And what of Dimitri and Adrian? Will she be able to keep her hands off Dimitri or is the temptation too great for her to resist?

~~~~~~~~~
There are several twists and turns that jump right at us as we get to the end of this amazing series. Several characters we forgot about come to the forefront and Spirit plays a huge part in this book.
I truly loved this book – even the awkward part where Rose is hiding away with what can only be described as white trash vampires living in caves. Good thing I sped read through that part, though Dimitri’s jealous bits were highly entertaining.
But even though the series is done, the story of the rest of the characters, with Sydney in the forefront, continues with RM’s series, Bloodlines. Got to check them out!
