So what if he's a bit older and usually regards a human female as dinner, not a dinner date? Yes, Roman Draganesti is a vampire, but a vampire who lost one of his fangs sinking his teeth into something he shouldn't have. Now he has one night to find a dentist before his natural healing abilities close the wound, leaving him a lop–sided eater for all eternity.
Things aren't going well for Shanna Whelan either...After witnessing a gruesome murder by the Russian mafia, she's next on their hit list. And her career as a dentist appears to be on a
downward spiral because she's afraid of blood. When Roman rescues her from an assassination attempt, she wonders if she's found the one man who can keep her alive. Though the attraction between them is immediate and hot, can Shanna conquer her fear of blood to fix Roman's fang? And if she does, what will prevent Roman from using his fangs on her...
My Review:
Dr. Shanna Whelan is in hiding from the Russian Mafia. Her new name, Dr. Jane Wilson, is a poor cover for her ruined life and not a great consolation since she isn’t able to see her family any more.
She's also afraid that she may not be able to be a dentist much longer because she now faints at the sight of blood.
Roman Dragnesti has been a vampire for over five hundred years and is truly miserable in his life. He's asked to test out a new product that has an unexpected complication: his fang is pulled out of his mouth. Now he needs a dentist to fix his fang and ends up at Dr. Whelan's place of work.
Dr. Whelan receives an unexpected phone call from the Russian Mafia saying they know where she is and they are coming after her. Shanna is visibly shaken by this news and tries to call her U.S. Marshall contact, but gets no results.
When Roman seems to magically appear in the office, Shanna tells him to save himself. Roman is stunned speechless by her words and he can't let her selflessness go to waste. Roman removes her from the dental office and spies an old enemy by the name of Ivan Petrovsky. He wonders just what kind of danger Shanna is really in.
Roman tries to use mind control on Shanna, and finds that it doesn't work on her like it does on other mortals, which is a problem. Roman tries another way to get Shanna to let her guard down, so his tooth can be fixed and her fear of blood lessened.
Shanna likes the Highlander security guards very much, which irritates Roman to no end. In one instance, Shanna thinks she's killed Roman, which upsets her badly and the daytime guards think it's funny.
Aside from that incident, Shanna thinks that Roman is generous, intelligent, and sexy. He’s definitely someone she could have a relationship with. Roman can't stop thinking about Shanna, yet tries to get some work down in his lab at Romatech Industries.
When Shanna disappears after meeting the harem, she's low on options but doesn't know what else to do. Roman is frantic with worry over Shanna and is furious with the harem.
Roman dreads the Gala Ball Opening with it's boring black and white goth theme. Roman gets two unexpected surprises at the Ball: Shanna appearing in bright colors, and Ivan Petrovsky. Can Roman admit his feelings for Shanna? Can Shanna admit her feelings for Roman? Can Ivan Petrovsky be stopped? Your answers await you in How To Marry A Millionaire Vampire.

Love at Stake Series isn't your typical vampire book for several reasons. First, the vampires strive to help humanity. Second, there are two groups of vampires: The Malcontents and the Human Friendly Vampires. Third, Shanna and Roman’s relationship is more like my relationship with my husband. Fourth, it's about the give and take. Finally, there is certainly plenty of humor and love all around for many of the characters. Dive into the Love at Stake Series and see for yourself.
