Sometimes a secret goes to the grave. Sometimes Secret puts you there.
It’s been a hell of a year for Secret McQueen, and the last thing in the world she wants is to get caught up in werewolf drama. But when her former fiancĂ© Lucas Rain shows up asking for her help, she knows there’s no easy way out.
After making it known she wants nothing to do with him, Secret agrees to help find Lucas’s wayward sister Kellen. After all, how much trouble could one socialite get into in the city that never sleeps?
Unless that socialite has been spirited away by fairies.
Trying to track down a missing girl in an alternate reality is just the start of Secret’s problems, though. Someone appears to be killing teenagers, and the MO looks eerily similar to something for which the half-fairy oracle, Calliope, might be responsible. Throw in a rogue wolf pack claiming allegiance to Secret’s mother, Mercy, and she’ll have miles to go before she rests.
Warning: This book contains a promise fulfilled, sex that’s out of this world, and more heartache than one hybrid assassin can handle.
My Review:
As promised in the last review, we add another suitor to Secret’s already stuffed love triangle – the vampire Holden. In the book, Secret Santa, Secret calls in a favor to Holden who asks for one night with her as payment.
After being jilted and left at the altar by Lucas, and Desmond not wanting anything with her, either, Secret limps her way to Holden’s. Then things get complicated (like they always do) and Lucas shows his head again, not to apologize, but to enlist Secret’s help in finding his lost sister, Kellen.
Secret, still licking her wounded pride, decides to help find Kellen and then settle her issues later. To do this though, she’s got to travel to Calliope’s realm and against the fairy rules, she takes Desmond with her.
No shifters are allowed in the fairy realms because they can’t control their natures while there, but the team risks it all and Desmond is soon out for the count. Not to worry though, Holden steps up and into Secret’s bed (while Desmond is in the other room!!!!) and everything gets turned upside down.
Through this maze of suitors, Secret finally finds Kellan, but the situation is all sorts of confusing. Was Kellen kidnapped, or is she in the fairy realm living up her fantasy of finally finding Mr. Right?
While we’re trying to sort this out, we meet another character in this book, Aubrey, the Fairy King, Calliope’s brother who asks of Secret that which she treasures the most in order for him to return Kellan and Secret’s friends (with benefits har…har) back to her realm.
There’s also some mystery around Secret’s sword – which the fairies always seem in awe and in fear of, but not much is ever revealed, though it is always coveted.
Can Secret find a way to regain what she traded the Fairy King and will Kellen ever recover from whatever’s going on with her? Also, Mercy, Secret’s deranged werewolf mother doesn’t let up in this book and Brigit- oh no!!! watch out! Goodness, there’s just so much going on. But what about love – is Secret going to add another suitor to her ever growing list, or is her life going to come crashing down around her?
