Mercedes "Mercy" Thompson is a talented Volkswagen mechanic living in the Tri-Cities area of Washington. She also happens to be a walker, a magical being with the power to shift into a coyote at will. Mercy's next-door neighbor is a werewolf. Her former boss is a gremlin. And she's fixing a bus for a vampire. This is the world of Mercy Thompson, one that looks a lot like ours but is populated by those things that go bump in the night.
And Mercy's connection to those things is about to get her into some serious hot water...
My Review:
Mercedes or Mercy Thompson is an auto mechanic and garage owner. She's also a Walker - meaning she can shift into a coyote faster than a werewolf can shift.
Mercy befriends a young werewolf named Mac, and he helps her out around the shop. Mac quietly lets Mercy in and slowly trusts her to do right by him.
When Mac is being bullied by unknown men and told to come with them because they can cure Mac of being a werewolf, Mac doesn't believe them at all.
Mercy tells Adam Hauptman, the local Alpha of the werewolf pack, what has been going on. Mac goes with Adam and is introduced to rest of local pack. When Mercy discovers Mac dead on her front porch, she knows something is wrong at Adam's house. She discovers Adam is badly hurt and his daughter Jessie is missing, but she's not sure that she can trust the rest of the pack.
Mercy takes Adam to see The Marrok in Montana. Mercy explains what's been happening to Bran and his two sons: Charles and Samuel. Samuel and Mercy have history together and are unsure how to act around one another.
Adam is on his way to a full recovery and fills in the blanks that Mercy's explanation has left. Bran wants Mercy to stay out of pack trouble, but Adam chuckles saying he really doesn't know if Mercy will stay put. What or who killed Mac? Why was Adam injured? Where is Jessie? Can Mercy solve the mystery? Your answers await you in Moon Called.

Mercy Thompson is my favorite paranormal character hands down and on my definite reread list as well. Patricia Briggs did an excellent job of creating this world. The characters are rich, bold, interesting, and real. I will forever recommend this book to my friends interested in a shifter book. I always look forward to read any book in this series.
