The last person Nicholas (Nick) "Rixey" wants to help is Colonel Frank Merritt's daughter, Becca. Just hearing Becca ask for his help sends Nick down a path of hate and mistrust.
Nick thought the world of Frank Merritt until he realized that Frank betrayed everything he believed in. Becca is wandering around clueless and frustrated that no one is willing to help her out. When Becca's home is broken into, Nick steps up to the plate to take care of Becca.
Nick has a surprising reaction to Becca as she brings light into his darkness with a simple word or touch. Nick calls in his old Special Forces team for their help. Can either Becca or Nick admit their feelings? What was Frank Merritt hiding? Can the Special Forces Team regain their honor? Will Charlie be found? Your answers await you in Hard as It Gets.

I love the concept of this book because it's about redemption, honor, respect, and most of all trust. The title of the book is aptly named because everyone in the book had a stake in the outcome. The story is compelling and heartbreaking at the same time. The characters are true to life honest, real, intriguing, bold, and down to earth. I look forward to reading future books in this series.
