15844362

The Selection changed the lives of thirty-five girls forever. And now, the time has come for one winner to be chosen.
America never dreamed she would find herself anywhere close to the crown—or to Prince Maxon's heart. But as the competition approaches its end and the threats outside the palace walls grow more vicious, America realizes just how much she stands to lose—and how hard she'll have to fight for the future she wants.

From the very first page of The Selection, this #1 New York Times bestselling series has captured readers' hearts and swept them away on a captivating journey... Now, in The One, Kiera Cass delivers a satisfying and unforgettable conclusion that will keep readers sighing over this electrifying fairy-tale long after the final page is turned.

My Review:

The One is the final installment of Kiera Cass’ (KC) The Selection Series.

It was pretty much clear at the end of book two that America had given her heart to Maxon, but there were still a lot of obstacles in the way of a Happily Ever After.

Aspen, her first love was still rummaging around in her life and in her heart, Maxon’s father – The King – was never going to let Maxon choose her as his wife, and the rebels were getting way too close for comfort.

Politics are a major plot point in The One, and though I was trudging through this, desperate to read about the love triangle between Maxon, America, and Aspen, I’m so glad we get to see another side of America and how she wades the shark infested waters with the best of them.

America really comes into her own in this book. Previously, she’s seen all of the injustices around her and she only manages to ruffle a few feathers and cause a few ripples with her attempts to do what’s right. But in The One, she really makes an impact and shows that even a small ripple can permanently change the world around her.

Her words and spirit are encouraging the masses and as her popularity grows, she finally sees her dream of being Maxon’s wife a reality. But the rebels aren’t going to stand by and let the royals continue with The Selection. They want to take everyone down and destroy the old world to bring in the new.

Out of nowhere emerges an unlikely alliance with a good faction of rebels – ones who see that both America and Maxon can make a better change for their country. The rebels offer them the chance to establish a new world.

Danger surrounds this new alliance and if they are caught, Maxon and America will be treated and convicted as traitors. With so much at stake, will Maxon and America risk their lives for their country? Or will the secret America harbors about who Aspen really is destroy the bonds forming between Maxon and America? Is America really The One for Maxon?

~~~~~~~~~~
I loved loved loved The One and I read it in the span of a few hours. I could not put it down and I was cheering and hollering as the amazing action and fast pace of the book kept me wishing the story would never end.
Probably the hugest surprise of the book to me was how KC managed to turn the hateful Celeste into a loveable character. I really warmed up to her, something I thought would never happen.
I’m totally crossing my fingers that KC revisits this series in the future, but can we have an adult version? LOL Hee hee
