Interview with Kathryn Harvey and Giveaway!

ROL Interview

Hello, Fellow Readers! Please join me in welcoming
Kathryn Harvey to our blog!

Thank you so much for joining us, Kathryn! Please tell us a little bit about yourself.

I’m happily married and live in Southern California. I’ve been telling stories since before I could read and when I am not spinning tales, I play golf.

Sounds great! Well, let’s jump into your book, Butterfly. It is such a captivating story. Could you tell our readers a little bit more about it, and what inspired you to write it?

The idea for my book came from a board game friends and I had invented for our personal amusement.  We designed a board with squares, we had little movers, we rolled dice and we drew cards.  The game was about women’s sexual fantasies, and we each contributed fantasies on the cards, plus “men.” (mostly in the form of movie stars).

Some of the fantasies were basic, but most were elaborate and sounded like romance novels.  One evening in the middle of a game, one of my friends said, “How come men have such easy access to sex?  They can buy it whenever they want.  But what’s out there for women?”  Another player said, “Wow, a really neat bordello for women.”  And I added, “I’d be there in a flash.”  Mind you, we were all happily married and just speculating.  But the idea had been planted.

Sounds like a great game I’d love to play – but instead of movie stars, I’d probably do book characters. LOL Speaking of characters, do you have a favorite character in Butterfly - one you identify more with, or one you had more fun writing?

I loved creating Beverly Highland because she totally reinvented herself and I think all of us, at some point in our lives, wish we could shed our identities and start from scratch, a whole new life, new look, new “me.”  Just a fantasy, mind you, but a very intriguing one.  If we could do that, totally change, what are the possibilities that lay before us?

Endless I’d say! But before I contemplate that further, I need to ask the question we are all dying to know - is there a real Butterfly Club that inspired you, or is it just straight from your imagination? If it's real, can we get a 1-Day pass, or snag a job in Quality Control? Smile

Amazingly, I still get mail from readers asking for the precise address because they can’t find the place!  Alas, Rodeo Drive has undergone extreme makeovers since Butterfly was first written, so the look of the area has changed.  And as for does such a club really exist, I doubt it.  I think it would have hit the news long ago.  I did recently hear a famous “madam” talk about possibly opening a bordello for women in Nevada, but what she described sounded positively seedy and nothing I or my friends would visit.  Men and women are wired differently when it comes to sex.  Let’s face it, we can go to the nearest bar and avail ourselves of sleaze.  But high class?  We have to really search for that

I know exactly what you mean! Well, thanks so much for joining us, Kathryn. Do you have any upcoming projects?

I write under two names: Kathryn Harvey and Barbara Wood. I have just finished my fourth Kathryn Harvey novel, which is with my agent right now, and I am doing a final polish on my 24th Barbara Wood novel.

We’ll be sure to check them out. But before you go, I have to ask you the Obligatory Read Our Lips! Question: "If you could put your lips on any character, in any book, one you've written or not, who would it be?"

When I was a teenager I had a passion for science-fiction and developed the hots for Hari Seldon in Isaac Asimov’s Foundation Series.  I doubt Asimov intended Seldon to be a sexy, romantic hero, but you can’t account for the tastes of teenage girls!  (Great question, by the way!)
