After cheating death twice in one night, confessing her true nature to her werewolf soul mates and being asked to kill one of her closest friends, Secret took a much-needed vacation. By running away.
Now she’s back in town—dragged kicking and screaming—determined to clear Holden Chancery’s name. Right after she finds out what he’s accused of. It shouldn’t be hard—Holden has a habit of using their new and scintillating psychic bond to break into her thoughts and dreams at some very, shall we say, awkward moments.
Just a few things stand in her way: a secretive Tribunal leader, a group of would-be vampire slayers and two werewolf boyfriends who refuse to let her operate in her customary lone-wolf style. Even less amusing are the terrifying creatures that someone is using in an attempt to gain control of the council. Even for this out-of-the-ordinary bounty hunter, it’s a challenge with potentially deadly teeth.
Warning: Contains an ever-plucky heroine with no shortage of weapons, super-hot mind games, an ever-complicated love triangle and one hell of a creepy amusement park.
My Review:
After barely making it out alive in the last book, Secret decides to take a much needed vacation out of town to get things in order – especially since in the last book she was given an assignment she just can’t bring herself to do.
Secret’s been tasked with killing Holden, her vampire handler. But after she runs away – not only from her assassin assignment, but also from her complicated love life of being soul bonded to two men, Sig, orchestrates her kidnapping to bring her back to reality.
Instead of killing Holden, Sig tells Secret that she must prove his innocence and find out why the vampire tribunal wants him dead. The only way they can save him is to prove his innocence and it’s up to Secret to clear his name.
But in between all her long list of suitor problems and archenemies biting at her heels, it’s a tough go trying to figure out why someone’s out for Holden’s blood. But Secret vows to clear Holden’s name – even if she’s got to kill those on the vampire tribunal to do it – but wait – protocol has it that any vampire who kills a tribunal member must take their place on the tribunal. Is Secret willing to handle that if all else should fail?

This book is filled with so many other side characters you’ll grow to love – especially Bridget, the new vampire Secret must train. There’s also Calliope, the oracle half goddess/half fairy who was Marilyn Monroe in a past life and whose realm is such a lifesaver to Secret. Plus of course the humans, Keaty, the man Secret thinks of as her father, who got her into the assassin business – Mercedes, her detective friend who is so awesome. And don’t leave out Juan, the vampire tribunal leader who hates Secret so much, not to mention Sig, the vampire enigma who’s lived thousands of years. And other characters you just can’t help but fall in love with!
This was such a great read, the only reason I didn’t give it 5 Kisses was because there wasn’t much of love triangle with Secret’s wolves. She chooses one in this book – it wasn’t much of a contest. LOL
