Review: Liberating Lacey by Anne Calhoun

Newly divorced Lacey Meyers wasted too many years yawning through sex in the missionary position. Now she’s looking for a hookup with a man who can make her shatter. What she gets is a hot younger cop with handcuffs…and he’s not afraid to use them.

Hunter Anderson knows the score—though classy, successful women like Lacey might play with guys like him, at the end of the evening, they walk. But when one night leads to another and then another, he finds himself getting too attached to a woman he can’t have. Lacey knows Hunter—gorgeous, hard-edged and eight years younger—won’t want anything permanent.

No matter how hot and daring he makes her first public sex, quickie, backseat encounter and secret fantasy role-play, she can’t mistake adventurous sex for emotional involvement. They both know it’s got to end, and soon, or someone’s going to get hurt. But can either of them go back to life without the other?

Reader Advisory: Lacey’s highly erotic “forced” sex fantasy comes true in this book. Lucky her!

  • My Review:

Liberating Lacey is unquestionably my favorite book. This is the book that introduced me to the world of Erotica. It was my gateway book! I read the first chapter and I was hooked. I stayed up all night reading. I just couldn’t put it down! This is one of those rare books that you wouldn’t change a single thing, even if you could. Lacey is a wonderfully drawn character.

She’s independently wealthy and Ivy League educated but incredibly down to earth. She’s a 36 year old woman who, a year ago, got out of a marriage where she and her husband had sex once week in the missionary position. She decides that she wants to experience the quintessential hookup, to see what she’s been missing just once in her life.

While in a bar that’s decidedly a meat market she meets Hunter. One touch from him to the small of her back and she feels a sexual charge the likes of which she’s never known. She turns to see a 28 year old cop, Hunter. He’s tall, dark, handsome, strongly muscled, and she can’t look away. Their flirty banter leads to the best sexual experience of Lacey’s life and..that’s only the beginning.

They continue to see one another under the guise of helping Lacey with a series of “firsts”. Hunter tries to navigate through his feelings, saying that he doesn’t want a relationship, yet continuing to see her. She brings out the protective, possessive Alpha male in him and it’s hot!. I adored when Hunter discusses the age difference between he and Lacey with his Dad, who promptly replies, “Last time I checked, women didn’t come with expiration dates.” I love Hunter’s dad! He’s that no bullshit allowed voice that every book should have.

Lacey wants exclusivity with Hunter, but doesn’t tell him as she fears that trying to tie Hunter down will only make him fly the coop, so she takes whatever he is willing to give. Their chemistry is combustible. There is absolutely no redundancy in any of the sex scene and there are a lot of them! Rarely does a chapter go by without incredible, hot, spank-bank worthy sex.

But what sets this book apart from a lot of erotica is that it’s just so emotionally satisfying! This book is Anne Calhoun’s only full length novel to date, but boy does she deliver! With its intelligent dialogue, phenomenal sex scenes and emotions that aren’t contrived or a plot device, Liberating Lacey is a rare gem in contemporary erotica.

How hot is it? Raging fire out of control.

How romantic is it? Paris and poem-worthy.

How well written is it? No hiccups, uses broad vocabulary and perfect sentence structure.

What I love about Liberating Lacey
    :

    • Hunter’s emotional growth.
    • Lacey’s sexual growth.
    • It’s not a cougar book in sprit.
    • The fellatio scene. So Hot!
    • The You Show Me Yours, I’ll Show You Mine scene.
    • The bad cop scene.
    • The restaurant bathroom scene.
    • That grilled cheese with tomato is “their” food.
    • That I’d want to be friends with Lacey.
    • That I’d want Hunter to fuck me standing up. (If I weren’t married, of course)
    • The theme of Dominance and submission are so subtle, I missed them on the first read.
    • That Hunter frequently calls Lacey, “Beautiful”.
    • That Hunter loves Lacey’s “sexy underwear”.
    • That Lacey’s underwear isn’t particularly sexy.
    • It’s a great big book of spank-bank material! (as in-have your favorite man/toy handy girls!)
    • The rain scene.
    • And that you can read it over and over and still love it as much as the first time you read it.

      ROL-Dislike

What I don’t like about Liberating Lacey

    • That there wasn’t a sequel.
    • That Anne Calhoun got me hooked on her writing but only writes short stories
    • That it wasn’t made into a full length movie, full frontal included!
