Rose Hathaway's life will never be the same.
The recent attack on St. Vladimir's Academy devastated the entire Moroi world. Many are dead. And, for the few victims carried off by Strigoi, their fates are even worse. A rare tattoo now adorns Rose's neck, a mark that says she's killed far too many Strigoi to count. But only one victim matters ... Dimitri Belikov. Rose must now choose one of two very different paths: honoring her life's vow to protect Lissa—her best friend and the last surviving Dragomir princess—or, dropping out of the Academy to strike out on her own and hunt down the man she loves. She'll have to go to the ends of the earth to find Dimitri and keep the promise he begged her to make. But the question is, when the time comes, will he want to be saved?
Now, with everything at stake—and worlds away from St. Vladimir's and her unguarded, vulnerable, and newly rebellious best friend—can Rose find the strength to destroy Dimitri? Or, will she sacrifice herself for a chance at eternal love?
My Review:
Just like there’s that one book in a series that’s your favorite, there’s also one which you wish you could fast forward through so you can get to the next book. Blood Promise was a fast forward book for me.
The last book ended in such a cliffhanger with – brace yourself – Dimitri’s death *faints* that I just wanted to find out what was going to happen now that he was a strigoi.
But Blood Promise takes a huge detour. Rose vows to find Dimitri and put an end to his life. It’s what she thinks he would have wanted and done himself, if given the chance.
Rose leaves the school and Lissa, and embarks on a trip to Dimitri’s homeland: Russia. There she meets and stays with his family while she tries to find the new being he’s turned into.
There’s some drama going on with Dimitri’s sisters, but I couldn’t get into the plot because I had Dimitri on the brain.
Rose also meets her father, a Moroi who turns out to be a gangster. Again, another story line I couldn’t fully immerse into, but it will be important later on.
Finally, towards the end of the book, Rose finds Dimitri and things are nothing like Rose imagined them. Will Rose have the courage to end Dimitri’s life or will she join him in the afterlife as a strigoi? Wait! Before I choose – what do you mean there might be a chance Dimitri can be turned back into a dhampir? *faints*
On to the next book!
